20220915 Sunrise – Vyssi Monastery – Rozmberk Castle: Got up at 5:30 after a restless night’s sleep. Fought the comforter lots. Left hotel at 6:00 and walked way uphill through and beyond the castle for a good viewpoint both for sunrise and for shots over the whole city. We were lucky since we had a brilliant sky for sunrise which was closely followed by rain. We achieved some great images before the rain, and trooped downhill back to the hotel and breakfast.

Today’s activities were geared for experiencing lots of rain. Left at 9:00. Drove an hour or so to Vyssi Brod Monastery. Climbed up a long set of steps to get to the monastery itself. Guide took us through many locked doors first to the fabulous library hall and rooms. Quite special. Then to the church within these walls. Lovely. Saw some other rooms as well.

Drove to the town of Rozmberk and walked uphill (is there any other way?) to Castle Rozmberk. Had a great guided tour through many rooms filled with paintings of famous people, wonderful furniture. In the armory, there were even swords used by executioners!

Walked back downhill to the van and drove into town for lunch at the Martina Restaurant for a good meal. Then a long drive back to Cesky Krumlov and we were on our own for the rest of the afternoon. I worked on images then walked into town for gelato…was underwhelmed by the flavors today. Ah, well.

Walked back to the hotel to rest. Gotta say I am weary. Lots of walking every day including steps, uphill slopes, cobblestones, etc. But all worth it for sure. My “device” says in the past week, I have walked an average of 12,000 steps. Today was 11,700. Average is 4.5 miles a day, which is what today was so far. Oh, and the “flights climbed” metric is an average of 9 floors a day, with today only 6!

Seven of us walked into town about 6:00 and went to Papa’s Restaurant. Tom, our guide, had recommended it and it was great. Always surprised as how reasonable the bill is. Walked back to the hotel in the rain.

We head out tomorrow for our last stop in the Czech Republic. Just one night and then off to Budapest for the balance of the trip. Will pull out of here at 9:00AM.
