July 14-August 5
7/15: Simonsbath House Room #3 – stopped at Stonehenge, dinner at hotel
7/16: Dove over the moor, went to Lynton/Lynmouth (cliff railway down), lunch Greenhouse Tearoom, next to Watersmeet (confluence of East Lyn and Hoar Oak rivers) – waterfalls, rapids; Porlock and Porlock-Wier on the water (Bristol Channel), over the toll road (one lane at times). Dinner at hotel.
7/17: Combe Martin – flat tire – one long lane between hills going down to the water – motorcycle museum; Ilfracombe; Arlington Court (lunch there) – paintings, ship models, etc. also a church, huge stables, carriage collection; dinner at hotel
7/18: Barnstable – Pannier market (indoor); Clovelly – steep walk down, lunch in tearoom; Heartland Point on Atlantic – cliffs; Hearthland Quay; Bude; dinner at hotel
7/19: Tarr Steps – ancient rock bridge, slabs of stone; Knightshayes Court house and garden lunch in converted stables; brief stop at Dunster Castle; dinner at hotel
7/20: Winsford, thru Dunster to Minehead, then to Selworthy – Natl Trust village with thatched roofs; Porlock; bought Pat Jeffs pottery in Minehead; back to hotel thru Exmoor Forest and the moor; dinner at hotel.
7/21: Drove into Wales to Llwyngwril (Penrre Bach B&B). Lunch at Rhayader; dinner at B&B
7/22: Mt. Snowdon at Llanberis – nice lakes and rivers on drive. Cog Railway station – lunch nearby; Cog RR up the mountain; dinner at B&B.
7/23: Through Barmouth to Harlech Castle, tower stairs; Portmerion – Italian style village – lunch at small hotel there by beach; drove further down peninsula before going back to hotel; dinner at B&B.
7/24: Tour of countryside with Nick (hotel owner) – standing stone sites, Bronze Age burial sites; Aberdovey – lunch Britannia Hotel; Castekk Y Bere ruins, rural church with 3D model of whole area; Bird Rock (Craig Aderyn) – cliff for cormorants. Back to B&B for dinner.
7/25: Bodnast (?) Garden; Conwy – big castle from 1200s, town walls – lunch: dinner at B&B. Moved rooms from Holm Oak to Sweet Chestnut (as planned).
7/26: drive to Lygon Arms in Broadway – Room #5 in old part; Broadway Tower folly; dinner at hotel.
7/27: Stow-on-the-Wold; Hidcote Manor – lunch there – big garden; Chipping Camden; Stratford – dinner in RSC restaurant; Bartholomew Fair Ben Johnson.
7/28: Rollright Stones – 70+ stones; Charlecote Park – lunch there; Dinner Stratford at Usssens; “Measure For Measure”
7/29: Drive to London –Curzon Plaza, 56 Curzon – unit #36; luch at Al Hambra in Sheppard’s Market; Fortnum & Mason; Burlington Arcade; Selfridges; Dinner at Oxo Tower w/Melvyn and Shirlee.
7/30: Shopping Filofax, Halcyon Days, Paper Chase, Foyles; lunch at Boheme Café; Disney Story, Hamley for pix; Seattle Coffee Co; “What We Do For Love” at Gielgud; dinner at Pied a Terre.
7/31: Green Park to Buckingham Palace; down Mall to HorseGuards – Cabinet War Rooms; Westminster and Parliament; Tate Gallery and lunch there; Covent Gardens for rubber stamp store; “Unexpected Man” and dinner at Pond de la tour on Butler’s Wharf.
8/1: Hyde Park over to Brompton Road and Harrods; Up to Piccadilly and Fortnum & Mason for lunch in Fountain; tried for Chagall tix – outdoor sculpture of people on the ground-Royal Academy of Art; Mont Blanc in Burlington Arcade; Melvyn and Shirlee for “Whistle Down the Wind.: Magnos Brasserie for dinner.
8/2: Walked along Serpentine; then to royal Albert Hall and V&A Museum – lunch there – Wright room; “Art” at Wyndams Theatre; Dinner at Mezzo
8/3: Royal Academy of Art for Chagall exhibit; British Museum (lunch with Wendy Walker); Marks and Spencer; Liberty; M&S picked us up – Le Suquet.
8/4: St. James down to where Queen Mother lives – 98th b’day; Green Park to Hyde Park horse cavalry with guns salute; Wagamama for lunch; Underground to Sharpes’ – summer pudding (Roger and Carol Voss joined us).
8/5: Victoria Station for Gatwick Express and flew home

10/11 and 12: STL to Paris – Hotel Duc de St. Simon, room 41. Dinner at Jacque Caguy’s bistro-Rotissiere en L’face.
10/13: Musee D’Orsay, Pont Royal over Seine, Ile de Cite, Ste. Chapelle, Notre Dame, Holocaust Memorial, dinner at Les Bookinistes.
10/14: Louvre (Café Richeleau), Tuileries, Champs Elyseas, Arch de Triumph, dinner at Petit Zinc
10/15: Rue de Rivoli, Place Vendome, Place de Madeleine, Fauchon, Place de l’Opera (lunch Café de la Paix), Lucas Carton for dinner.
10/16: Paris to Roche Carbon – Peugot 300. Hotel Haut Roches room 11, drive to Amboise, hotel for dinner.
10/17: Chateau Amboise, Chenonceau on the Cher (lunch in Orangerie), drive thru Cher valley, Grand Hotel du Lion d’Or for dinner and walk around town on fromonantin-Lanthenay.
10/18: Chateau Chaumont sur Loire (stables), lunch La Metainie, Chambord, drove by Chateau Villesavin and Cheverny, then to Braeieux for Bernard Robin for dinner.
10/19: Azey le Rideau (on Indre River), Villendry (gardens), Tour (old city – half-timbered bldgs.), Le Choiseul (Amboise) for dinner.
10/20: To Angers – Hotel d’Anjou, tiny room #355, drive along Loire to get there, toured chateau and climbed its tower, Apocalypse tapestries, Cathedral of St. Maurice.
10/21: ESSCA, Lurcat Musee tapestries, moved to room #356 – bigger and double bed, dinner at Toussant near chateau.
10/22: Chateau Saumur and abbey, taught, Brasserie de la Gare (fruit de mer tiered platter)
10/23: Taught most of day, dinner at Auberge Belle Rive along Maine, Marian spent part of the day in Nante.
10/24: Taught most of day, dinner at Toussant.
10/25: Angers to Paris – Hotel Relais Medici room #26, walk to Ile St. Louis, dinner at Tempe Purdu on Rue de Seine (only fair).
10/26: Pont Neuf to Ile de Cite, shopped Rue Rivoli, Orangerie for Monet, lunch Angelinas (hot choc), dinner at La Muniche on St. Benoit.
10/27: Paris to NYC to STL
