20220502 Malta: Coming into Valletta (Malta) harbor is wonderful. It’s rimmed by old buildings from ages ago. The captain had told us about how pretty the harbor is and about what time we’d be here. I stumbled out of bed, put on a bathrobe to head over to fill a glass with bottled water and remembered the captain’s words. Grabbed my camera and went on our deck for a nice treat, great views.

Dressed, had breakfast in the room, went down to check in at 9:00 and were sent out to our bus. However, as we left the auditorium, our temperatures were taken as reference for Sicily tomorrow. Then onto the bus. Headed through Valletta, the capital of Malta, and headed up to the Dingli Cliffs for a beautiful view along the coast. No, Marian, I did not go anywhere any precipices.

Bus then went to Rabat. Walked through town and to the St. Paul’s Catacombs. Went through the underground maze of tunnels and past gravesites. Then walked some more and into Mdina. This is a gorgeous old city with great architecture. In the center of the city is the Baroque Cathedral of Saint Paul. We spent time in there absorbing all the colors and chapels.

Walked to a meeting place for the bus and were back onboard by 1:20. We put our stuff in our suite and headed up to La Veranda for a nice buffet lunch. At 2:30, I went down to Deck 6 and the spa for a deep-tissue massage. Ohhhhhh. Needed that after all the walking we’ve done. Back in the suite about 3:45. Anbu brought our afternoon canapes.

About 5:45, the ship started to leave the harbor. We again were treated to all the great buildings in the afternoon light, but it was the opposite side of the harbor we had seen coming in. So, golden hour both coming in and leaving. Nice.

At 6:30 we headed down to Prime 7, the ship’s steak restaurant. Problem for both of us was that most of the cuts of beef and veal were HUGE. We opted for somewhat only big portions.

As we left the Valletta harbor around 6:00, we were and are in more ocean swells. Nothing terrible, but we decided to take the elevator both down to the restaurant and back up to the suite. We’re rolling along.

Tomorrow is another half-day excursion. We will be in Sicily and go to Taormina with its Greek theatre and park with a great folly. Having been there in 2019, I am excited to see it again.
